Modulisme
[Repeated from Friday 11.30pm.] Modulisme (which translates as Modularism) is a series devoted to out of leftfield modular synthesis. This week: a retrospective of The McLean Mix, pioneer duo of Priscilla and Barton McLean who began to perform electro-acoustic music together in 1974. In the '70s the McLeans worked with the Synthi 100 and Arp 2600 synthesisers, Scully tape recorders, spring reverbs, the ElectroComp 101 synthesiser, and many small devices in the Indiana University at South Bend Electronic Music Center. They performed in concert and toured from 1974 to 2013, presenting their separate works and collaborations across the USA and internationally. First broadcast 4 October 2024. Late Lunch with Out to Lunch
[Repeated from Wednesday 2pm.] Polemic, politics, mouth jazz and spontaneous music with Ben Watson. This week: Ben presents "Strafed with Intervention", a musical monsterpiece generated from 447 words of Word Jazz typed by Out To Lunch, OTL's slowed-down voice brought into tangential syncopation with acoustic guitar played for "Offering #18", and Peter Baxter's lonely drums. Then there's "Operation Lunch", constructed by taking music recorded in Melbourne by Operation, the free jazz quartet (Hugh Collins - tenor sax; Henrix Hamalainen - trumpet; Liam Perry - bass guitar; Paddy Walter - drum set), and combining it with solo piano recorded by OTL in London. "Skirting Boards with OTL and Dogstar" rounds off the episode with a Baxter drum solo, plus OTL's acoustic guitar from "Offering #8" and Dogstar's synth from an AMM All-Stars Betsey Trotwood session on 31st January.

Age UK responds to the latest annual poverty statistics showing that 1 in 6 pensioners live in poverty based on the winter before last, and so predating the loss of the Winter Fuel Payment for most pensioners.
