A Sound Map Of The Roman Baths

Created by musician and composer Chris Cundy, this five part series follows a year-long collaboration with poet Adam Horovitz and researcher artist Dominyka Vinčaitė as they delve into the subterranean sound world of The Roman Baths. Today: Episode III. The Ruin. We look at remarkable 10th century Old English poem, The Ruin, which is thought to give a rare glimpse of Bath at a transient moment in history, and following the decline of the Roman Empire. Radio art instigator Mark Vernon turns his forensic attention to time itself – deconstructing and reconstituting hours and minutes by immersing us in the polyrhythms of clock workshops, constructing a giant collection of self-created seconds, and asks horologists, “How does your occupation affect your perception of time?”
